At Aura, we were recently commissioned to create a full set of custom ceremonial gowns for a university client, bringing together our design expertise, traditional craftsmanship, and dedication to detail.

Each gown was thoughtfully designed to reflect the wearer’s role within the ceremony. We provided the client with design options and custom embroidery on the gown flap featuring the university crest. This ensured each garment not only honoured academic tradition but clearly distinguished the positions represented.

To ensure accuracy and fit, measurements were taken on site by Aura-trained staff. All garments were then handcrafted in our Exeter workshop, with a lead time from confirmation to delivery of just nine weeks — an efficient turnaround for a project of this scale and significance.

The client selected a rich black damask for the most senior officers, while the remaining gowns were crafted from a deep blue damask, creating visual cohesion and rank distinction. Each piece was made to the client’s exact chest and length measurements, ensuring a refined and dignified fit.

This project stands as a celebration of both academic tradition and British craft. We’re proud to support institutions in expressing their identity through garments that are individual, timeless, and made with care.
